Less fuss.  More freedom.

A simple way to turn your everyday van into a little home from home.

The back of a silver SUV with the rear hatch open, set up as a portable camping or picnic space on a sandy beach with dunes and green bushes in the background. Inside the SUV, there are storage cabinets, a small table, and some cushions. Outside, there are two small matching storage cubes with cushioned tops, one on each side, with candles and a lantern on the sand in front.

MEET THE MAKER

Max McMurdo wearing a green jacket over a white shirt, touching his chest with his right hand, against a dark background.

A little out of the ordinary. By design.

Outlandish Campers is the vision of Max McMurdo, designer, TV presenter, author and lifelong believer that there's always a more imaginative way of doing things.

From turning discarded objects into something useful to finding clever solutions for small spaces, Max has spent his career challenging the conventional.

In 2020, he turned that curiosity towards campervans, with a simple idea: what if converting a van could be easier, more affordable and a whole lot more flexible?

And so Outlandish Campers was born. Thoughtful design, without the unnecessary complications.

Meet max & discover the outlandish story

Here's what fellow campers have to say about life with an Outlandish kit…

  • “I absolutely love my van! It’s given me everything I need to just get away, have some adventures and enjoy a bit of freedom whenever I feel like it. It’s my own little space, and I love knowing I can just jump in and go.”

    - Cat - Citroen Berlingo -

  • “I don’t like it… I LOVE IT! It is amazing, total credit to you. It’s so configurable, I can’t wait to get it on an adventure!”

    - Aileen Murphy - VW IDBuzz -

  • “Outlandish Capmpers are not just a business selling camper kits, they are passionate designer makers who go the extra mile and are always happy to problem solve and evolve.”

    - Sophie - VW Caddy -
