The mind behind Outlandish.
Outlandish Campers was founded in 2020 by Max McMurdo, a designer, author and TV presenter with a lifelong curiosity for how things work, and how they could work better.
From turning washing-up liquid bottles into spaceships as a child to a career in product design, upcycling and sustainable creativity, Max has always enjoyed challenging the conventional.
You might recognise him from programmes including Amazing Spaces, Interior Design Masters and Tool Club. He also holds an honorary doctorate in sustainable design, recognising his commitment to creative thinking and a lighter environmental footprint.
Whatever he's making, his philosophy remains the same: good design should be useful, accessible and make life a little better.
How Outlandish began.
When Max turned his attention to campervans, he saw an opportunity to do things differently. Traditional conversions could be expensive, time-consuming and permanent. There had to be a simpler way.
Drawing on his experience in product design and small-space living, Max developed a modular system that makes converting a van more affordable, flexible and accessible.
The result? Lightweight, flat pack campervan furniture that's easy to assemble, simple to install and removable whenever you need your van back for everyday life.
